Topic of the Week: LEED a Must for Building Professionals
LEED, the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is undoubtedly the most recognized green building program in the commercial building industry. In fact, if you are an architectural or engineering firm or a contractor looking to construct a building on government property these days, the contract will require you to build to a level of LEED Silver or higher. That’s how respected and established the criteria are for LEED certification.
If you or your key employees are not already LEED certified, SENCON can help you put your business on the path to take advantage of the growing number of green building opportunities. After all, it won’t be long before sustainable building practices are the norm rather than the exception in modern construction.
The first step to becoming a LEED accredited professional is to pass the LEED GA (Green Associate) exam. As part of SENCON’s training course offerings, our LEED GA exam prep includes a complete review of the LEED rating systems as well as general guidelines for the system. Our instructor will go over proven strategies for taking and passing the exam, along with helpful tips and tricks for studying and passing it as well.
For those professionals who already have their LEED GA as well as documented experience working on at least one LEED project, the next step is to obtain your status of Accredited Professional in one of the specialties such as the Building Design & Construction (BD&C) accreditation. This level of accreditation is geared toward those professionals participating in the design and construction phases of durable, economical and efficient, high-performance buildings.
SENCON offers a two-day overview of the LEED building system and sets the student on the path toward completing their LEED BD&C exam. The process to become LEED BD&C can be time consuming and expensive, however, SENCON’s program is designed to get you through the process quickly and easily. It is an essential course for professionals working for architectural firms, engineering firms, interior designers, general contractors, construction managers and commercial landscape architects.
